Kristine Five Melvær

Norwegian designer Kristine Five Melvær designs tableware, lighting, furniture, graphic design, clothes and textile objects. She holds a Masters degree in Industrial Design from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, and a Masters degree in Visual Communication from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
Melvær bridges the two disciplines and focuses on the communicative potential of objects to create emotional bonds between object and user. She works freely across product categories and materials, and often beyond the product itself, and into art direction and graphic design.
She has won several awards within both of her disciplines.

The “Echoes” Rug Collection

Echoes by Kristine Five Melvær is a poetic rug collection inspired by the layers of life and the memories we carry. It consists of three handtufted and 3D sculptured designs, each in three color combinations.

Kristine Five Melvær’s latest rug collection is a deeply personal exploration of her life’s journey, relationships, and connections to significant places. Through geometric forms, rich color palettes, and intricate compositions, Melvær transforms personal narratives into visual and tactile experiences.

Each rug weaves together stories, places, and emotions through geometry, texture, and color, inviting us to walk across a personal landscape of memory, presence, and legacy. This collection transforms the floor into a canvas of lived experience and quiet reflection.

The development of the collection has been a meticulous process, involving hand-drawn sketches, vector-based illustrations, embroidered samples, paper models, and tufted prototypes. Through this fusion of research, craftsmanship, and artistic expression and close dialog with the founder of Volver Ksenia Stanishevski, Kristine has created a collection that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
