Yorgo Lykouria

Yorgo Lykouria is the Founder, Creative Principle of Rainlight an integrated design studio, operating between offices in London and New York with client collaborations across North America, Europe, and Asia.

Yorgo Lykouria has designed and developed work for manufacturers such as Tecno, Scavolini, Allsteel, Dornbracht, Ferrari, Montblanc, Okamura, Vitra and Zumtobel.

Yorgo Lykouria, brings over twenty years of experience across a variety of disciplines, from product design to aviation, automotive, to architecture, and filmmaking, winning numerous awards in the process. By connecting different fields of creative thinking, Lykouria uses its interdisciplinary toolkit that shows a unique perspective in many areas to this project.

Showcasing the best of British design and Norse mythology, the Yggdrasil rug collection, combines exquisite design, skilled craftmanship and delicate natural materials. In this collaboration the designer Yorgo Lykoria and the creative lead of Volver Ksenia Stanishevski have translated the visionary and bold designs into modern masterpieces.

“I am delighted to make this foray with Volver into a creative process that unites art with craft and industrial design. We are looking to unite London street culture with ancient Norse Mythology!” - says Yorgo.

The sacred topic of Yggdrasil and three norner was chosen as a theme. An ancient Norse legend tells about Yggdrasil, the Tree of the World, that reaches to the heavens and embraces the whole creation. It has three strong roots, that reaches down to the underworld of immortality, where three norner water the tree from the Well of Fate. These three norner are sisters and between them they weave a thread of a human fate. Their names are Urd (Past), Verdande (Present) and Skuld (Future).

In their design discussions, Yorgo and Ksenia, challenged the limits of art, design and craft. The original sketches are intricate highly detailed abstract compositions inspired by the London graffities. They are organic, wild and dark. These qualities were translated and modified to create exquisite luxury rugs with richness of textures, elevations and colors.

The collection consists of four designs Yggdrasil, Urd, Verdande and Skuld. The rugs are hand tufted with an excellent level of detail, equal to the craft applied in houte couture.
